We had a 120 acre fire on Johnson Hollow Rd. on Monday, Feb. 16, 2009. The pagers went off at 10:30 am and we stayed until 5 pm. The wild grass was 7 ft. high and flames 15 ft. high. Forestry brought a tractor and bull dozer to help get the fire under control. The photos are courtesy of the Forestry Ranger.

"The EF-3 tornado that struck Preston Island on Highway 79"

In this photo, the tornado is crossing the lake in the valley. The picture was taken by Martha Tellefsen from her deck at her home in Swearengin.
The power was out for 2 days, and Cable/telephone service was just restored April 15th. The Total track length of the storm was 33 miles, and the twister averaged a width of 1/2 miles across, as it crossed 3 counties in NE Alabama.
Eight people were hospitalized, but there were no fatalities. Five other tornadoes were reported around the same time in North Alabama. Another tornado in Murphreesboro, TN killed 2.

DAR Elementary 1st Grade Class
Hebron Fire & Rescue conducted a fire safety class to the first grades of Claysville and DAR Elementary Schools. They were given fire safety coloring books and taught about fire safety and what to do in the event of a fire.

On November 14, 2008, Hebron Fire & Rescue was awarded a FEMA grant in the amount of $198,750 to purchase a new fire truck. We couldn't do it without Hebron Community's continued support to raise the matching 5%, we must pay. Thank you.
Firefighters Larry Driver, Roger Bearden, Anita Barnett, and Neal Barnett, (from left to right in photo) recently visited Bluegrass Fire Apparatus in Elizabethtown Kentucky to review the new truck, which is scheduled to arrive in June.
